The 3rd National Steering Committee for 'Development of Road Safety Plan for National Highways & Motorways of Pakistan' on 10 April 2018 at the head office of the National Highway Authority (NHA) in Islamabad to deliberate on decisions to improve road safety on all roads across the country.

Hosted by the Ministry of Communication the meeting was chaired by Furqan Bahadur Khan who gave the opening remarks and, together with Ms. Xiaohong Yang, Country Director, Pakistan Resident Mission, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Ms. Patricia Seex, Head of Economic Growth, DfID-Pakistan, officially launched this national website.

Other key speakers included, National Highway Authority Chairman Jawad Rafique Malik, Hafiz Ahmad Ahsan Khokar, Senior Law Adviser, Wafaqi Mohtasib; Inspector General NH&MP Dr. Syed Kaleem Ullah Imam; Ms Patricia Seex and Ms Xiaohong Yang.

The meeting was attended by Planning Commission; National Health Regulation Services; Ministries of Finance, Interior, Industries and Production, Science and Technology; National Highways Authority; National Highways and Motorways Police; Provincial transport and police departments; industry groups; academic institutions; and civil society.

The Steering Committee meeting approved the draft National Road Safety Strategy, 2018-2030 for all roads in Pakistan and a national consultation process for its ratification and implementation of the Strategy and its National Road Safety Action Plan, 2018-2022. The meeting also approved the activation of the National Road Safety Council and a National Road Safety Awareness Campaign.

“The National Road Safety Strategy 2018-2030 sets an overall target of saving at least 6,000 lives and meeting our agreed global road safety performance targets by 2030. This can only be met, if all of us, from the Federal Government, the Provincial/Territorial governments, development partners, and civil society work together as one, under a coordinated approach” said Furqan Bahadur Khan, Secretary Ministry of Communication.
